Apple Tree Planting - The Table celebrates National Tree Day

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

This Wednesday, September 25th schools and communities across Canada are planting trees to “appreciate the great benefits that trees provide us – clean air, wildlife habitat, reducing energy demand and connecting with nature” (http://www.tcf-fca.ca/national-tree-day). On top of all that trees can provide food – think apples, plums, cherries, mulberries, almonds, walnuts… and more!

We’ll be marking national tree day by planting an apple tree. We have 8000 sq ft. of garden space in Last Duel Park, leased to us in kind by the Town of Perth. We currently grow annual vegetables and are looking forward to adding fruit to our harvests. We are very grateful to two local companies for making this planting possible: Our new apple tree has been donated to us by Terrascapes Landscape and Design Inc. (http://www.terrascapes.ca/). Soil and mulch were donated by Landscape Products Depot (http://www.landscapeproductsdepot.com).
