The Table Goes to Market

On Saturday October 3, staff and volunteers from The Table, Perth’s Community Food Centre, are heading down Highway 7 to the Byward Market to be part Farmer Appreciation Week. From 11 am to 2pm, Chef Judy Dempsey, assisted by the others, will be sourcing local ingredients from market stands and demonstrating the best way to incorporate them into a delicious harvest soup.  The demonstration will occur in front of the main market building on George St.

The Table will be taking advantage of being in the busy market to promote an upcoming fundraiser – Restaurants For Change. On October 21, more than 50 restaurants in 13 cities across Canada will donate proceeds from dinner service to support the right to healthy food for all Canadians. In Ottawa, funds raised are being shared between The Table and Community Food Centres Canada. The participating Ottawa restaurants are Atelier, Murray Street Kitchen, Supply and Demand, and Thyme and Again.

The Table Community Food Centre is an affiliate site of Community Food Centres Canada and offers a suite of integrated food access, food skills, advocacy and social justice programming.  All programs are developed and delivered in ways that maintain dignity, build community and challenge inequality.
