The Community Action Network, our social justice club, has entered the Christmas parade this year as a choir and is looking for interested people to join us in singing some revised carols. The parade is happening on December 6th and leaves the old Brown Shoe building on Sunset Blvd. at 5:00. We are asking that people who would like to join us get in touch for more details about appropriate clothing and foot wear and for times and dates of practice sessions. For more information please conact Samantha at 613-267-6428 ext. 4 or at sam.thetable@gmail.com OR get in touch with the Community Advocacy Office at the Table. We hope to have a large enough group that our voices will be heard, please join us. See below for the new lyrics of the classic carols we will be singing.

Shop in Town

(To the tune of Jingle Bells)

Written by the Community Action Network

Dashing through the shops in a one horse kind of town

Spending cash at home spreads the wealth around

Perth has everything to make your Christmas right

Support the shops that line the streets of this parade tonight

Oh, Shop in town Shop in town

Avoid the big boxes stores

If you want small towns to last

We all must do this more    X2

Get it local made, keep your money in your town

Barter or use trade and keep the economy sound

It’s not how much you spend, homemade means more than bought

Repurposed and reused conveys an even deeper thought

Oh, Shop in town Shop in town

Avoid the big box stores

If you want small towns to last

We all must do this more    X2

If you plan to shop for your Christmas cheer

Why not plan to shop at home and keep your money here?

Every time you do, you help your small town thrive,

Get to see your friends and avoid the longer drive

Oh, Shop in town Shop in town

Avoid the big box stores

If you want small towns to last

We all must do this more   X2

Tight Christmas

Written by the Community Action Network

(to the tune of White Christmas)

I’m looking at a tight Christmas

I can’t afford to go and shop

My budgets too tiny

My paycheques declining

Against inflation that won’t stop

I’m looking at a tight Christmas

With every bill I have to pay

My days are not merry or bright

Cause I can’t afford to pay the bill for lights

I’ve no Home for Christmas

(to the tune of I’ll be home for Christmas)

Written by the Community Action Network

I’ve no home for Christmas

And no food to eat

If it snows I’ll freeze my toes

Out wandering through the sleet

Christmas Eve will find me

Sleeping on the street

I’ll have a home for Christmas

But only in my dreams
