Access to good food is something that everyone requires to do well in their life. One way that the public shows its support for ensuring “good food for all” is the generosity shown to food banks, particularly at this time of harvest and thanksgiving. But, shouldn’t safe, healthy, affordable food should be at the top of the agenda when it comes to public policy debates at election time? 

Community Action Training

Community Action Training brings together lower income community members and allies with lived experience to take action on issues of poverty and other social, political, environmental and economic injustices. It builds the capacity of community members to become effective change-makers through individual coaching and group workshops.

Stone Soup 2015

On Thursday October 15, The Table Community Food Centre is kicking off its annual Harvest Campaign with a “Stone Soup” demonstration at Town Hall.

Come and Learn About Hydro Rights and Privatization

Come and learn about your rights as a low income consumer, and learn about the impacts privatization is likely to have on you. We will be discussing your rights as a utility consumer as well as hearing from the Citizens Coalition Against Privitization about how the selling of more parts of Ontario Hydro is likely to impact on us all. Lunch will be served as part of this workshop, and gift cards are available for participants.

The Table Goes to Market

On Saturday October 3, staff and volunteers from The Table, Perth’s Community Food Centre, are heading down Highway 7 to the Byward Market to be part Farmer Appreciation Week. From 11 am to 2pm, Chef Judy Dempsey, assisted by the others, will be sourcing local ingredients from market stands and demonstrating the best way to incorporate them into a delicious harvest soup.  The demonstration will occur in front of the main market building on George St.

Fall Mindfullness

Mindfullness will be resuming indoors and in the lovely conference room at the CAS complex on Herriot St.  Please join us for these free, relaxed, mindfullness based meditation sessions.

Dinner and a Movie: Honour Your Word

Honour Your Word is an intimate  portrait of life behind the barricades for the Algonquins of Barriere Lake, an inspiring First Nation whose dignity and courage contrast sharply with the political injustice they face.  The title refers to their campaign  slogan demanding Canada and Quebec honour  a precedent-setting conservation deal signed in 1991.  

Donations for the Barriere Lake people are appreciated and will be accepted, but they are not expected.

Come and meet your candidates for MP.  Join us for dinner from 4:30 to 6pm at the Table, then come to the Civitan for 7pm to ask questions of all four major parties regarding safe healthy affordabel food for all.
